Any MD's want to weigh in on the validity of homeopathic remedies for the structural integrity of your veins and organs spontaneously nope'ing the fuck out?
They should find this person and send them to the hot zone.
Irresponsible.
Ugh.

The people in the "hot zone" believe voodoo is their best chance, so it might not be a bad idea to try it over their and profit. Well, if you can profit over there, I guess you can make much more not selling bs to the worlds poorest people.

OMG EBOLA! FREAK OUT!!!!

To date, no virus or other form of microbial life has been known to survive contact with rubbing alcohol either.
Maybe this person should swallow some. 1 gal = permanent immunity to all known viruses and infections.

I fear Ebola will come into my room and steal my diecast cars. And rape me in a loving manner.

Ugh.
This.
Fine if someone wants to believe in a "natural" cure for something, but especially with something like Ebola, to even imply that this is a solution is negligence. I hope you didn't find this at Whole Foods, though it wouldn't entirely surprise me.
Double Ugh.

My brother used to keep that stuff next to his water bottle in his bedroom. One night he woke up, wanted some water and drank the isopropanol by mistake, He probably only swallowed a quarter of an ounce, but he did not feel good for the next couple of days

It should be noted that Essential Oils are not homeopathic.
But it doesn't mean that they are any more effective against ebola as treatment, which they obviously would not be.
HOWEVER, that being said... a few (read: a handful) of natural antiviral and antibacterical chemicals exist in nature, and some of these are used as part of these oils, because they introduce the virus or bacteria to an environment that it cannot survive in, killing it upon contact. Here's a paper for you on the subject: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1965319… there, they used the Herpes virus as an example for testing the effectiveness of these oils. It also notes that they are not very preventative in this study and have only a strong effect when introduced after infection.

Also, there are 2 diseases going around: Ebola, and the fear of Ebola.

Would you rather have Ebola rape you in a non-loving manner, I wonder?

My personal opinion to all homeopathic and herbal remedies is: use it with full knowledge of potential side effects, always tell your doctor if your taking it. Now I'm not going to say that they don't work and start a flame war, and I'm never displeased when my patient's are cured with them. What I don't care for is people who think we doctors are too stupid to realise their potential. If it works, then its probably already being used! The medical field is not full of as many conspiracies as people think.
As for the whole Ebola thing, a cure is unlikely, but symptomatic management available in the first world might just be enough for the virus to be killed off by own immune system.
